Useful Resources for Ukrainians

Here, we provide some guides and websites that may be useful for Ukrainians and hosts of Ukrainian guests.

Government Guides

Subscribing to receive official information directly from the Government

We have seen a lot of rumours and misinformation circulating on social media, such as:

  • Visa schemes are ending by a certain date
  • Government funding is ending by a certain date
  • Ukrainians will be paid to go home
  • Visa applications must now be made through an ‘agent’ for everyone’s protection

Who knows where such rumours originate from? But we 100 % do not advise you to believe them, spread them, or base your future actions on them.

Instead, empower yourself to know what the Government has published officially, by simply subscribing to receive updates as soon as they are made available. We understand everything is uncertain and you are searching for any information at all, but trust that it’s better to wait and hear from official Government sources, than a Telegram channel. Rest assured you will be given plenty of time to act for anything that actually affects you, should the rules change.

To subcribe to the Government ‘Ukraine response’ topic (be sure to select this, and not the single page option), you will need to:

  • Visit this link: Russian invasion of Ukraine: UK government response – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) – this is the ‘topic’ to subscribe to
  • In the middle of the page, find and click the ‘Get emails’ link
  • Click ‘Continue’ to go to the next page
  • Select the frequency you want to get emails e.g. once a day
  • Enter your email when asked
  • You will be sent an email with a link to click on to confirm your subscription; a successful subscription looks like this:

You will receive regular emails about who is on the UK Sanctions List and Ukraine visa statistics (feel free to ignore these), but also updates to the Government guidance pages for hosts and guests.

When you receive an update for a particular guidance page, you can see all the previous updates by clicking the ‘See all updates’ link on each page; this means you can identify what the new update was compared to the previous information. This helps you understand any fundamental change in information compared to before and protects you against rumours and scammers saying that there is a ‘new scheme’ or ‘new Government rule’.

Other websites and guides

The Red Cross have put together a useful helpsheet: https://www.redcross.org.uk/get-help/get-help-as-a-refugee/help-for-refugees-from-ukraine

This is also available in Ukrainian: https://www.redcross.org.uk/-/media/documents/get-help-as-a-refugee/ukraine/information-leaflet-for-ukrainians-arriving-in-the-uk_ukrainian_april.pdf?la=en&hash=1785B82FDABC4302067CFF3BBAE8994658299963 and Russian: https://www.redcross.org.uk/-/media/documents/get-help-as-a-refugee/ukraine/information-leaflet-for-ukrainians-arriving-in-the-uk_russian_april.pdf?la=en&hash=0131A55E4D6FE152EE9D30D875E7EA6001D8ADCA

There is a Google doc which gives details of organisations in London that can provide help and support: Ukraine Charities & Community Groups Support – Google Docs

Whilst there are other similar websites to ours in existence, when we review them, we find that some of the information is inaccurate or out of date, whereas other information is at times, even more detailed than ours. Thus, we cannot wholeheartedly link to them, and we advise you to proceed with caution when using them – you may find something useful that complements the information on our website.

Always double check information from other websites when using them. We subscribe to receive updates from the Government Welcome Guides as they are published, and we also liaise with the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), which produces these guides, to raise any questions and issues that arise directly.
